About
Resisting and defying the myth of Antillean Arawak extinction. Re-Indigenization. Anti-colonialism. Decolonization. Decoloniality. Landback. Agroecology. Collective Liberation. Multispecies Justice. Interspecies Politics. Ancestral Knowledge. Food, Water, Land Justice & Sovereignty. Food, Health, Agricultural, Environmental Policy. Dance, Fine & Performing Arts. Grassroots Organizing Power! Centering Indigenous, Afrodescendant, and Campesino Knowledge-ALWAYS! -----Eloísa is an award-winning policy advocate, liberation and food activist, educator, and artist. Her path toward activism and collective liberation started early in life. She was raised by centenarians who lived off the land, taught her to be self-sustainable, and passed down much ancestral knowledge to her. This shaped her views of justice and empathy for all Beings, protection of our sacred home (Earth), and the belief in the healing power of plants, sharing, and community. As an AfroIndigenous (Taíno) woman from Abya Yala, she approaches liberation praxis with an anti-colonial framework to raise awareness of how Western colonization has and continues to affect the plight of human and beyond-human persons (animals). And how it has changed the food system and our relationship with each other, the land, and every part of the natural world. She is the Executive Director at Chilis on Wheels, where she works to make healthy food accessible to communities in need through direct food relief, policy advocacy, education, and mentorship. And founder of VAA, a systems change-focused, community-driven, anti-speciesist, anti-colonial organization founded on the belief that all Beings have a natural right to autonomy and to live free from oppression regardless of species. In addition, Eloísa works with national and international coalitions and organizations as an advisor to develop community-informed strategies and policies to transcend poverty, mitigate climate breakdown, and transform our food system. Previously, she worked at The Economist Feeding the Future Campaign. Her favorite food is fruit, and she currently resides on the ancestral and present lands of the Munsee Lenape, Canarsee, Rockaway, Wappinger, Manahatin, Reckgawanc, Unkechaug, Matinecock, and Haudenosaunee Peoples, now referred to as NYC.--------To support the Indigenous Peoples of Lenapehoking, please make a donation here: https://mannahattafund.org/give100% of your donation will go to the American Indian Community House, a 501c3 nonprofit serving the health, social service, and cultural needs of Indigenous New Yorkers.

Chilis on Wheels makes nutritious, climate-friendly food accessible to communities in need through direct food relief, policy, education, and mentorship. We also work with organizations offering food to the community to transition their offerings to culturally appropriate, healthy plant-based meals. At Chilis on Wheels, we don't just stop at direct food relief, mentorship, and education. We are committed to driving systemic change by advocating for policy and legislation that promote a more fair and just food system from farm to fork. We aim is to address the root causes of environmental injustice, food injustice, and poverty--paving the way for a more equitable future. Chilis on Wheels (CoWs) believes that community-first approaches are critical to dismantling systematic inequalities that prevent historically excluded and marginalized communities from accessing adequate nutrition and attaining food sovereignty. Through our networks, we're collectively building alternate systems to make healthy food accessible to the areas we serve and put the power back in the hands of those most impacted. YOUTH: We have created an incredible youth program, the Plant Powered Youth Fellowship (formerly the Plant Powered Youth Steering Committee), with our partners, Friends of the Earth and the Plant Powered School Meals Coalition, to center children and youth. Check out the link below to learn more. We also rescue food to address food waste. Please get in touch if you want to partner!

Chloe Waterman and I had a little idea that turned into a big idea! Founded in 2022, this program has become one of our favorites! The students have already accomplished so much! A creation of Chilis on Wheels and Friends of the Earth with incredible support from the Plant Powered School Meals Coalition (formerly the Healthy Future Students and Earth Coalition), the Plant Powered Youth Fellowship (formerly the Plant-Powered Youth Steering Committee) uses policy advocacy, organizing, and campaigning to fight for nutritious, ethically sourced, culturally appropriate, and sustainable school food that includes plant-based entrees and plant-based milk options so every student can make the choices that they need whether for religious, ethical, environmental, or health reasons.

Through critical thinking, we examine how Western colonization has affected food systems, food policy, and food sovereignty and how social inequalities are built into our system, leading to food injustice, climate breakdown, and health inequities. In this class, students learn: -The history of food systems in the USA and globally before and after colonization -The role of animals in Western colonization -The role colonialism has played in the expansion of the dairy industry -How land ownership affects food sovereignty -Indigenous foods and agriculture techniques -To recognize how food access is determined in their area -Where their food comes from and how it is produced -Working conditions and labor rights for farmers and slaughterhouse workers -Diet and disease: How chronic diseases are related to nutrition -Food and the environment: The negative impacts of factory farming on local communities and the world -Animal welfare in animal based agriculture -Empowerment: How they can affect local, institutional, and policy change -The importance of seed sovereignty in the fight for food justice -Landgrabs under the false promise of hunger eradication and preservation -How to get involved in community farming, gardening, and mutual aid -How to transition to healthy, plant-based nutrition

V (Vegan) Community Fridges Campaign (in schools and public areas)
United States
Free plant-based community fridges in economically depressed, mixed-income, and fastly gentrifying area inspired by IOHNY. Locations in New York, New Jersey, and expanding. The campaign has the following goals: -To show that everyone has a natural right to healthy, climate-friendly, culturally relevant, and delicious food that grows from the ground and aligns with their values. -To show that eradicating hunger, eliminating food waste, and making climate-friendly food choices can't wait. -To show that making healthy, ethical, and climate-friendly choices should not be limited to the privileged few. -To bring together farms, organizations, companies, and anyone providing plant-based food and animal-free products to be more involved and recognize the systemic issues that prevent healthy food from being accessible. -To make emergency food assistance less bureaucratic and the process of acquiring food a less shaming one by taking away the requirement of paperwork to prove a need. -To show that emergency food access solutions should involve the entire community and center those most impacted. -To highlight the need to move away from approval processes that do not consider the time poverty faced by communities in need, the fridges are open 24/7.

Founder

Vegan Activist Alliance was founded on the belief that all Beings have a natural right to their autonomy and to live free from oppression regardless of species. We are an anti-colonial, community-driven, anti-speciesist organization working to end the exploitation of all persons and fighting for the protection of our home, Earth. We seek to challenge power-holders and the status quo on who is deserving of freedom and autonomy-- and who is included in the fight for social justice and liberation. VAA strives to achieve individual and systemic change by movement and coalition building, raising awareness, building community, and working on policy. We seek to build community and empower activists to lead in the fight for collective liberation without depending on any particular group or brand– including us. Our goal is not only to create more activists but to build a more cohesive and inclusive movement. VAA takes an abolitionist, radically inclusive, anti-speciesist, anti-racist, anti-colonial, anti-imperialist approach to our liberation work. We believe in the interconnectedness of all Beings and the planet and hold our consistent anti-oppression views firmly. We stand in solidarity with all persons regardless of species and with all members of our community regardless of race, color, sex, age, national origin, ethnicity, citizenship status, religion or lack there of, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, neurodiversity, physical and mental ability, and any other status as a federal, state or local protected class.
