Education

English Literature
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS: My degree has provided me with a multitude of transferable skills, including writing, analysing information and texts, research, independence, creativity, using initiative and being a team-player (i.e. group presentations). DISSERTATION: "This is not a Fairy Tale”: Folklore Archetypes and Disability in Roald Dahl’s Children’s Literature. Here I examined disability representation in Dahl's works, considering how both ‘hidden’ and physical disabilities are conveyed through the fairytale archetypes he uses. I interrogated progressive and problematic depictions and the consequences of them, highlighting the need for closer consideration of disability representations in popular media in order to help beat stigmatisation of disability / difference. MEDIA/FUNDRAISING PLACEMENT: I undertook a placement module at a local Hospice working on digital media and marketing/fundraising, allowing me to gain experience in the working world alongside my degree.

GIFTED & TALENTED / HE+: Selected for the college's Higher Education+ Gifted & Talented scheme for English Literature in partnership with the University of Cambridge, attending weekly masterclasses to gain insight into approaches to literature at university level, including a masterclass at University of Cambridge EXTRA CURRICULAR: wrote for the college magazine; involved in creative writing enrichments. GERMAN AS LEVEL: studied AS German and took part in the German exchange.
