Elle Sugerman-Hermansen, PhD

Dr. Sugerman is a clinical neuropsychologist. She earned a Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Capella University, a Master of Liberal Arts in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Harvard University-Extension, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biochemistry from The University of Arizona. Her foundational training includes a clinical internship at Utah State Hospital and a fellowship rotation in Pediatric Neuropsychology at Dartmouth Medical School. She has also completed post-doctoral continuing education at Harvard Medical School in Neuroimaging, Dementia, Neurorehabilitation, and Neuropsychiatry. She founded the Steinmann Institute in 2011. In her clinical practice, Dr. Sugerman addresses the needs of pediatric/adult populations with conditions including learning disabilities, developmental disorders, traumatic brain injury (TBI), acquired brain injury, dementia, and severe and persistent mental illness. She also offers cognitive remediation, designed to improve cognitive functions. Her practice also offers forensic evaluations. She is also a Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) for concussion assessment. Since 2012, she has served as the Chief Neuropsychologist Consultant for Salt Lake Behavioral Health. Her appointments have also included roles as a juvenile fire setter evaluation neuropsychologist and a state-designated TBI Fund neuropsychologist for the Utah TBI Fund. Additionally, as a HIMS trained psychologist, she conducts psychological evaluations. Demonstrating a deep commitment to patient advocacy, she spearheaded a 2016 initiative to secure affordable ongoing MRI access for TBI Fund patients. Leveraging her extensive clinical and leadership experience, Dr. Sugerman has served in numerous professional service roles, including as the Polizzi Board Chair, President of the Brain Injury Alliance– Utah Chapter, President of the Utah Geriatric Society, and Public Policy Chair of the Alzheimer’s Association – Utah Chapter. She has also served as adjunct faculty for the Utah Valley University School of Aviation Sciences. Reflecting their long-standing commitment to the United States Air Force, Dr. Sugerman and her husband, a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel and veteran fighter pilot, are valued supporters of the Hill Aerospace Museum. Their contributions through the Heritage Foundation support the museum's core mission by sponsoring the restoration of aircraft, improving facilities, and supporting educational programs that inspire future generations in science and aviation.
