Structural Drafting for Commercial and Residential Development

Architectural drafting for state public works projects

Subdivision design and commercial development that consisted of earthwork grading, utility coordination and stormwater drainage. Knowledge MUTCD and AASHTO guidelines for geometric, traffic and structural design of roadways. Responsibilities includes design submittals for owner/client and agency review. Management duties included supervising drafting staff and the production of construction documents. Proficiency in EXCEL, Microsoft word and AutoCad Land Desktop Development software. In January 2006 I accepted a position in Caltrans but the president of R & B Engineering announced the office was closing due to changes in the market. I was asked to extend my employment until March 2006 to close out projects that the firm had obligations to complete.

Duties consisted of geotechnical field investigations, laboratory testing, writing geotechnical reports consisting of findings, conclusions and recommendations for site design and development. Geotechnical field investigations included logging and recording soil subsurface borings, in-situ percolation tests and cone penetrometer tests (CPT). Research work consisted of analysis of USGS topographic maps and soils conservation maps, interpretation of current and historic aerial photos to determine site history and field conditions. Critical duties required were calculations and analyses of field and laboratory data in evaluating soil properties and characteristics to be included in reports to support conclusions and recommendations for structural and foundation designs. Resigned from Wallace Kuhl for health reasons.

Worked on the relocation projects for transmission lines. Tasks to complete all design work consisted of using computer-aided software, performing structural calculations, assisting survey crews with staking and reviewing environmental documents. Other design work included designing steel retrofits for substations with fuel spill containment for seismic events.

Electronics technician who performed testing and troubleshooting for DSCS satellite terminals using solid state theory.

Assigned to work on the PS&E design for the Interstate 5 Freeway Widening and Reconstruction (Alondra Blvd. Segment) in Los Angeles County for Caltrans District 7. Authored Storm Water Data Report for the Alondra Blvd. Segment which consisted of determining risk analysis, identifying pollutants and selection for Construction Site Best Management Practices for existing and proposed stormwater drainage systems within project limits. Experience with cost estimating (BEES), stage construction and scheduling. Prepared submittals to local, state and federal agencies to obtain construction permits. Knowledge of MUTCD and AASHTO standards for designing freeways, local streets and interchanges that are within or connect to a Caltrans right-of-way. Other engineering work performed were identifying utility conflicts within right-of-way and coordinating relocations, removals and abandonments with utility owners and agencies. Was appointed as a Safety Officer and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) coordinator for the I-5 Santa Ana Corridor in Los Angeles.

Provides engineering and design services for residential and commercial development. Experience includes building designs, tenant improvements, site improvement and stormwater pollution prevention plans for construction. Additional services include creating CAD generated as-builts plans and model building for historic structures.
