Employed as in-house counsel for the commercial litigation section. Promoted from Counsel I to Counsel II in under 15 months. Managed litigation in a variety of areas- consumer protection, torts (including but not limited to wrongful death, intentional infliction of emotional distress, false imprisonment, defamation, and personal injury), small claims, breach of contract, real property, bankruptcy, employment, tax, and class actions. Developed a new litigation hold process for the more than 200 active litigation matters and 300+ potential litigation matters. Prepared 500+ witnesses for trials and depositions. Coordinated the review of more than a 100,000 emails and internal documents in numerous cases and determined whether or not documents were privileged and whether or not production of same was necessary. Hired, managed and terminated (when appropriate) more than 100 outside local counsel in over 32 states. Developed streamlined procedures for management of outside counsel. Supervised and directed the work of a staff of two (2) to (4) attorneys and six (6) paralegals as well as two (2) administrative assistants. Successfully negotiated settlements with Attorney Generals’ offices in Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Connecticut, and Florida. Attended mediations in numerous states. Responsible for training new attorneys for Counsel I positions and numerous litigation paralegals. Provided legal advice and support for multiple corporate departments. Developed procedures for Internal Fraud, Subpoena Compliance, Executive Complaints Resolution, Financial Services, Offline Support, and Security Department. Drafted numerous memorandums on a variety of subjects including subpoena compliance, document retention, necessity of litigation holds when reasonably certain of the possibility of litigation, and streamlined insurance notification and ongoing status updates for numerous departments nationwide.
