The U.S. AI Safety Institute (AISI) works to advance the science of AI safety and address the risks posed by advanced AI systems. AISI is tasked with developing the testing, evaluations, and guidelines that will help accelerate safe AI innovation in the U.S. and around the world.

Managed technology and financial services portfolios, including artificial intelligence, financial stability, payments, privacy, and data sharing. Spearheaded the domestic components of the AI executive order, including efforts to promote competition, protect privacy, and support workers and consumers. Helped lead Administration engagement with allies and partners on AI governance.

Managed 20-person growth team that included strategy, marketing, press, sales, product, and engineering employees. Grew assets under management through rebranding, acquisition of registered investment advisors, and direct-to-consumer outreach. Led integration of United Income’s team and investment management technology after its purchase by Capital One.

SVP of Operations (January 2018 – July 2019) Chief of Staff (March - December 2017) Director of Policy (November 2016 - February 2017) Joined seed-stage financial planning and investment management start-up as 15th employee and helped grow company to 70 employees and successful exit. Built and oversaw business development, corporate development, legal and compliance, and operations functions. Identified strategic opportunities and cultivated and closed key partnerships, including Series A and company sale. Led successful acquisition of 10 investment advisory firms, including pipeline development, initial outreach, due diligence, financial modeling and valuation, negotiation, closing, and integration into the parent corporation. Grew direct-to-consumer customer base through paid marketing and earned media, with over 300 press articles.

Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy (January - October 2016) Senior Policy Advisor (August 2014 - December 2015) Led White House engagement with federal agencies and external partners to develop and execute the President’s retirement security, financial inclusion, unemployment insurance, and sustainable capitalism agendas. Coordinated development, rollout, and defense of major rules and guidance, including fiduciary rule requiring retirement advisers to provide advice in their clients’ best interest and Military Lending Act rule closing prior loopholes to cap loans to service members at 36% APR.
