Creator of "The Joy of Fundraising" Elana's preferred work is raising $$$ to raise everyone's health and well-being, professionally and personally. Elana co-created the international video-based magazine EDUTOPIA as Senior Associate at the George Lucas Educational Foundation. Producer with KQED-TV, and contributing writer for the Center for Investigative Reporting, in 1995 she founded and ran Just Think, a locally launched, global media company empowering young people from distressed and diverse communities to tell their stories through film. Elana led the NGO for 13 years before merging w/ One Economy. Elana became the Senior Advisor of the merged company. In year one they secured $51.1M in ARRA + corporate funds for domestic activity and a $10M commitment via Cisco to a CGI in Sub-Saharan Africa & the Middle East, empowering communities via Community Knowledge Centers. She raised the funds & organized national leaders to co-found the US’s first national media education membership organization, NAMLE, and with the founding board co-authored the Core Principles of Media Literacy Education. Elana's sweet spot is collaborating with geographically and culturally diverse teams to found, fund, and grow organizations, particularly from scratch. As Special Projects Producer, Elana confirmed funds for "Bound to Freedom: Slavery to Liberation" a collaboration with humanitarian/fine arts photographer Lisa Kristine, award-winning filmmaker Erica Jordan and Pope Francis to eradicate modern-day slavery. Elana served as a pinch-hitter to confirm collaboration with Malala to raise funds for worldmerit.org at What Matters Day in Liverpool 2014. Recipient of the Jefferson Award for Public Service, Elana received the cable industry’s “Leader in Learning” award. Speaking highlights: OfComm’s International Media Literacy Research Forum, London; The inaugural White House "Conference on Internet Content for Teens"; Harvard’s first Innovation Summit “Igniting Innovation: A Summit on Social Entrepreneurship"; and World Merit's Morocco Summit orchestrating 500 young leaders to develop a strategy for significant impact framed by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
