Project name: Central Record Keeping Agency: Government of India introduced the New pension Scheme (NPS) effective January 01, 2004. This covers all new entrants to central government services. New pension scheme is a defined contribution scheme where the entrant contributes 10% of his/her income every year and the government matches this contribution. At present the record of this contribution is maintained by Central Pension Accounting Office CPAO and government pays defined interest for this contribution. PFRDA/GOI now plans to have this contribution managed by pension fund managers who will offer multiple schemes and the entrant will have a choice to invest his/her contribution in these schemes.
