E&I design of plant modifications/upgrades for BASF Bradford and Grimsby sites, including BCDs, SLDs, cable routing drawings, equipment & load lists, cable schedules and MTOs

E&I design work for National Grid Gas Churchover Compressor A & B Isolation Project and NG Distribution upgrades for Southport AGI Design and preparation of destruct and construct BCDs, termination diagrams, junction box drawings, loop diagrams, cable routing drawings, SLDs, earthing diagrams/layouts, L&SP drawings, equipment layouts, control schematics and cathodic protection schematics

Supervision of Electrical, C&I and F&G design work for National Grid Gas compressor stations in accordance with G17/G35 requirements, specifically ERP1 at Kirriemuir and St. Fergus and ERP2 at Hatton and creation/update of Site Operational drawing records for Hatton, Kirriemuir, St Fergus and Wormington compressor stations. Supervision/coordination of As Built and Site Operational drawing records to National Grid Gas RE standards, including liaising with NG Drawing Management and Drawing Appraisal Company.

* Electrical, C&I and F&G design work for National Grid Gas compressor stations in accordance with G17 requirements, specifically ERP1 at Kirriemuir and St. Fergus and ERP2 at Hatton. * Creating/updating project plans and trackers to monitor progress. * Designing C&I/F&G/LV/MV/HV cable route drawings, cable schedules, single line diagrams, lighting and small power layouts, distribution diagrams, schematic diagrams, earthing arrangements, block cable diagrams, instrumentation layouts, F&G detector layouts, loop diagrams, interconnection diagrams and hook-up diagrams. * Coordination of the creation of As Built and Site Operational drawing records to National Grid Gas RE standards, including liaising with NG Drawing Management and Drawing Appraisal Company. * Writing work procedures for as built and operational drawing practice and requirement for engineering change notices. * Assisting in preparation of tenders, ITTs, RFQs etc.

Checking and validating CE&I drawings and documentation for the existing SIXEP and MASWEP nuclear installations at Sellafield, Cumbria.

Surveying instrumentation installations against existing documentation and creating documentation when it doesn't exist, including modifying Engineering Line Diagrams (P&IDs) to incorporate any changes to instrumentation. Checking Loop Diagrams and Engineering Line Diagrams after draughting. Supervising other surveyors and CAD operators. Creating project plans and updating reports and registers to monitor progress. Co-ordinating with site staff to organise survey work plans and permitry issues

E&I design work for power station systems. Designing and creating drawings of cable envelopes for LV and control voltage circuits, electrical equipment layout drawings, civil guide drawings of cable ducts, wall and floor penetrations and sleeper locations.

E&I and mechanical design work for bulk material handling equipment. Designing and creating electrical schematic diagrams, outline drawings and material specifications for various control panels. Creating detail drawings for aluminium, stainless steel and carbon steel fabrications. Creating outline drawings for vibratory equipment.

Electrical detailing for an oil drilling vessel. Creating instrumentation and alarm schedules. Creating schematic diagrams and layouts for lighting, emergency lighting and supply circuit boards. Creating layouts for alarm and PA systems. Creating block diagrams for ship and machinery control panels

E&I and mechanical design work for bulk material handling equipment and systems. Designing and preparing electrical schematic diagrams, outline drawings and material specifications for various control panels. Creating proposals and cost estimates for electrical and instrumentation equipment. Creating detail drawings for aluminium and steel fabrications, castings and machined components. Creating general arrangements for vibratory equipment and plant outline drawings.

Creating control schematics, single line diagrams, cathodic protection diagrams, earthing diagrams, cable schedules and loop diagrams & loop diagram templates, equipment layouts and cable routing drawings. Checking loop diagrams after draughting.

* E&I design work for gas turbine power generation and gas turbine/motor driven compression packages. * Design work and 3D modelling for Product Standardisation Project (PSP) e.g. fabrications, piping and tubing layouts, E&I and mechanical assemblies, bought-in components. * Implementation of Unigraphics NX2 package and Teamcenter Engineering, including on the job training of other designers.

* Designing Unistrut supports for cable trays, ventilation ducts and pipes for BNFL, Risley. * Designing general arrangements and MTOs for chemical factory for CSM/Proctor & Gamble, Winsford. * Designing machine tool components used in the automotive industry for Giddings & Lewis Ltd., Liverpool. * Designing CE&I drawings for a gas pipeline pressure control station for Transco BG Ltd., Derby. * Designing plant layouts, P&IDs and pipe outline drawings for etching chemical factory for Atotech UK Ltd., West Bromwich. * Designing pipe supports for soap plant for UK Construction Ltd., Liverpool. * Designing machine tools for forming automotive fuse box components for Lucas SEI Wiring Systems, Newcastle-under-Lyme.

As part of my apprenticeship training programme I worked in all departments of the company, both on the shop floor and in the offices (i.e. fitting, plating, machine shop, panel building, inspection, sales, planning, costing, drawing office). Twelve month off-the-job training in basic engineering.

Production of EC&I design packages of varying complexity for the Legacy Ponds and Silos Asset Care Team (e.g. instrument panels, motor starter panels, annunciator panel refurbishment, E&I as build of extract and ventilation systems, replacement CCTV system and building evacuation/public address panel). Liaising with suppliers to ensure that control panel Factory Acceptance Tests meet Sellafield Ltd’s requirements. Interaction and interface with other design disciplines, project team and plant operational and maintenance personnel to ensure each design package meets stakeholder expectations.
