Working in support of the PMS 300/325 Ship Design Management team, providing SME expertise for technical and engineering efforts on T-AGOS-25. Providing engineering/technical support for concept studies; feasibility studies; preliminary design activities; contract design activities; detail design and construction activities; independent design reviews; In-service ship design and engineering activities; shipboard installation support; and special studies related to ships/boats/craft, ship systems and/or shipboard equipment. Perform critical ship design review and analysis of industry (shipyard) contract deliverables such as specifications, drawings and calculations. No behalf of Navy customer, develop corrective design comments and revisions to confirm to Government specifications and requirements. Supervise and train junior SDM engineers. Develop technical resolutions to engineering problems that arise in the production of Navy Ships. Provide Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) technical assessments and evaluations in accordance with the specification and advise the client on equipment and system design issues. Applying in-depth knowledge of SWATH hull form and structural details and ensuring that design drawings match the related “special features” of contract and regulatory requirements. Lead position with ownership of Centerwell/ Active Array portion of SURTASS system.

Sr. Project Engineer, Detailed Design – T-AGOS 25 Oversight of the Detailed Design of lead ship and (potentially) 6 additional hulls. Total contract value of nearly 1 billion dollars for the lead ship alone. Detailed Design budget approaches 1 million man-hours and involves designers, engineers, admin and sub-contractors. Will approach 300 individual designers and over 200 engineers. Day-to-Day oversight of leads in each discipline and verifying work is performed to meet the requirements of MSC, Navy, SSGC, production needs and contract specifications. Ensure that production packages meet the needs of Austal’s highly automated panel line with regards to panel size, edge preps, welding and forming and so on. Identified problematic areas regarding numerous weld-on-weld situations that were part of the Contract Drawings when younger Engineers and Naval Architects had not realized the impact to production and the fought have design changed to save production hours and eliminate issues at erection. Acting as the voice of reason on behalf of production to eliminate problems in the design as well as fend off changes that would be nearly impossible and/or extremely costly in construction. Worked aggressively to prevent problems before they happen….
