Ed Ralph
CTO @ AbOliGo
About
With 20 years experience in technology and marketing I'm a former COO, CIO, CMO and NED. Two of those in public companies. My academic background is biochemistry & molecular biology (to postdoctoral level). I code, plant truffle trees, get paid to do photography and I'm a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu brown belt. I've always loved building stuff. I build stuff on my own and I get a kick out of helping teams build even better stuff. Where stuff == AI agents, growth hacking, digital marketing strategy, marketing automation, organisations, software, technology... Along those lines a few years ago I created an app in the Salesforce ecosystem and built an ISV business around it and recently sold that to a cool outfit in the Netherlands. Currently helping them with the transition. I'm also the CTO for AbOliGo, an innovative life science startup based in Cambridge.

CIO
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Spent a few months working part time with Congenica, a great company developing tools and services for processing and interpreting genomic data (huge datasets!). They help clinicians diagnose rare genetic disease faster than ever before. I helped them to introduce agile working practices to help their expanding team deliver these important tools more effectively.

Head of Digital Marketing
Cambridge, UK
I was responsible for Abcam's digital channels and driving the adoption of marketing technology to develop relevant, useful and personalised experiences for our consumers. Specific skillsets in my (rather good) team include Brand, PR, Events, UX, SEM, PPC, Content Management/Marketing, Email Marketing, Digital Design and Analytics. This team was the combination of several marketing teams, one of which was the eCommerce department I formed back in 2006. Although I formally left as an employee in October 2014 I continued in this role as a consultant until Feb 2015.

Chief Information Officer
Cambridge, UK
Responsible for IT and eCommerce (digital marketing) departments. Developing great people and capabilities that leverage the best of Agile and Lean methodologies in an environment of operational efficiency, software development excellence and clever pragmatism to consistently deliver brilliant software systems for growing revenue and smooth operation of a £billion+ Abcam.

Head of IT and eCommerce
Cambridge, United Kingdom
Ran Abcam's IT function which consisted of a significant software development and infrastructure team. Software development focused on building and integrating internal business systems and the public facing eCommerce website www.abcam.com. During this time I formed an online marketing function responsible for Abcam's main website and digital marketing including SEO, PPC & targeted email.

Head of Web Development
Built Abcam's first CRM and inventory management systems and several iterations of Abcam's eCommerce website. Recruited a team of web developers to rapidly build out the software platform Abcam required on the run-up to IPO in 2005. Enabled addition of high numbers of products onto web platform, with SEO applied by default. Products were numbering in the thousands by this point and a big driving force behind Abcam's success was getting most of these products to #1 on Google.

Council of Advisors
Cambridge, UK
Red Gate build tools for DBAs and software developers, primarily focusing on SQL Server. They also offer tools for .NET developers and for other database platforms like Oracle and MySQL. The council of advisors consisted of 5 external exec-level individuals who provided a sounding board for their management team and take part in helping to develop Red Gate's strategy and organisation.

Postdoc - Biosensors
Had a lot of fun evaporating gold onto biosensor slides and trying to detect protein-protein interactions and forming lipid bilayers on solid surfaces. Once blagged a bag of stale blood for my research from Addenbrookes - not sure they'd allow that anymore! In my spare time I developed a new website for the department.
