For my PhD, I characterised and elucidated the molecular mechanisms of dormancy in dimorphic Chenopodium album seeds. This species is one of the most noxious weed species worldwide, responsible for causing millions in crop yield losses annually. My research work offers valuable insights into seed dormancy in agricultural weed species, which has long been one of the least understood phenomena in plant science

10-week internship funded by the Undergraduate Research Scholarship Scheme (URSS) on molecular marker evaluation of SNP alleles encoding late bolting in lettuce

Gained a good experience in practical procedures including DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, Sonication, preparing tissue culture and setting up batch cultures for fermentation. I attended workshops on primer design, lab calculations, grant writing and bioinformatics. I also attended weekly, optional postgraduate seminars where PhD students presented their research. Achieved a 70% average on modules throughout the year, including 77% in Fermentation Biotechnology, 76% in Medical biotechnology and 70% in Molecular Biotechnology.

Competed for Warwick University chess team against teams in the local area.
