I’ve been a book editor for over thirty years, focusing on current affairs, psychology/self-help, history, popular culture, biography, and memoir. I believe books are better than any other medium at changing people’s minds, and all the authors I’ve published are united by their efforts to do just that. Recently, I became an author myself. In April 2025, Putnam published my book, THE POWER OF PARTING, a blend of memoir, research, and reportage that explores estrangement as a potential remedy for the pain caused by abusive relatives. The New York Times called it “persuasive” and “an intellectually rigorous manifesto, a green light for reasonable limits.” My high school English teacher said “the book is beautifully organized and written. The underlying scholarship is impressive.” I’m also a professional photographer. My work has been shown at the International Center of Photography and elsewhere.
