Co-Founder @ Chicago Mushroom Club
About
I am the President and Co-Founder of Chicago Mushroom Club. This has been an ongoing project of building community outside of typical capitalist bounds. We intend to cultivate a network of people with supplementary skill sets to establish a broad base of ecological knowledge. We then disseminate these niche knowledge-bases to the public for free. No academic walls, no paywalls, just humans learning together, diving into the natural world around us. Our organization has contributed to scientific research in the field of Mycology as well as highlighted the necessity of protecting fungi in regard to overall ecological conservation through fostering public awareness. We aim to bring focus to urban mycology and community scientists. We have done this all free of charge, often at the expense of ourselves, working low-paying full-time jobs. Through our endeavors I have worked directly in event organization, community outreach, and citizen science. We have conducted lectures, social events, and bi-monthly guided walks focused on the fungi that surround us in our green city. Chicago Mushroom Club is currently looking for investors, assistance with grant-writing, NPO/NGO consultation, and a volunteer email campaign lead. Please email chicagomushrooms@gmail.com if you are interested in helping us build this community.

We intend to cultivate a network of people with supplementary skill sets to establish a broad base of ecological knowledge. We then disseminate these niche knowledge-bases to the public for free. No academic walls, no paywalls, just humans learning together, diving into the natural world around us. Planning and hosting bi-monthly community education seminars through the means of group hikes and presentations. Coordinating festivals, educational expos, and community building events. I co-lead our educational hikes, which are always free of charge. As a duo, my wife Mead and I, are self-funding and conducting multiple mycological research projects within Chicago’s city limits.
