Dylan Lee
Mechanical Engineer @ Poseidon Aerospace
About
I graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, and I am pursuing an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering at UC Berkeley with a concentration in Controls and Robotics. I have a deep interest in aerospace engineering, system controls, 3D modeling and design, and system modeling. In my free time, I enjoy coding, designing practical devices, playing chess, producing music, watching baseball, and Rubik's cubing.

ME 103 (Experimentation and Measurements) Lab Instructor
• Assisted students in using National Instruments PXI system in conjunction with LabView to carry out measurement experiments • Introduced students to concepts of measurement uncertainty, uncertainty propagation, and experimental procedures. • Guided groups of students through the creation and execution of custom-designed experiments to demonstrate understanding of course content.

ME 40 (Thermodynamics) Undergraduate Student Instructor
Berkeley, California, United States
• Led student discussion sections, facilitating collaboration and critical thinking to enforce conceptual understanding of the subject • Taught problem-solving techniques for engineering problems by challenging students to identify assumptions, conduct detailed analysis, and provide complete interpretations of results • Assisted students in both individual and group settings, adapting to various learning styles and environmental circumstances • Incorporated hybrid-classroom and distance learning techniques to accommodate difficulties in distance learning post-pandemic

Electronics for the IOT Project Member
Berkeley, California, United States
• Collaborated with group members to design a smart lock and buzzer system for apartments • Programmed ESP32 microcontrollers using Micropython and C++ • Designed circuitry to integrate microcontrollers and allow secure entry to residents’ apartment buildings upon entering a code

Manufacturing and Design Communications Project Team Lead
Berkeley, California, United States
• Cooperated with teammates to design a lightweight, portable, and detachable shower head attachment to distribute water flow and reduce water stream speed for more comfortable showers • CAD-ed, sliced, and 3D printed design iterations to optimize tolerances for the device’s snap-fit hinge and latch mechanism • Drafted a set of assembly and working drawings complete with GD&T tolerancing using SolidWorks

Mechanical Design Engineer
Irvine, California, United States
• Designed components of the fuselage, fuel system, tail, and aerodynamic fairings of an experimental autonomous fixed-wing aircraft using SolidWorks modeling and surfacing • Collaborated with analysis engineer to iteratively analyze a system-critical structural component of the aircraft using FEA; provided quantitative trade-offs to inform decisions on aircraft performance • Produced and updated engineering drawings for parts and assemblies, incorporating ASME Y14.5 standards and GD&T and facilitating transition from experimental aircraft to product • Assisted supervisor in onboarding new hires before end of internship to facilitate ease of transition; created documentation to prevent knowledge loss

President
Berkeley, California, United States
• Directed operations necessary for design and manufacture of a fully functional remote-controlled aircraft. • Educated new members through a student-led course at UC Berkeley (DeCal), assisting with software such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, and Ansys. • Delegated tasks among executive board to ensure timely completion of essential tasks.

Structural Design Team Lead
Berkeley, California, United States
• Collaborated with other team leads to ensure inter-team communication, essential for the network of subcomponents to form a fully functional remote-controlled airplane • Analyzed and validated designs fuselage and landing gear designs utilizing FEA in SolidWorks and Ansys • Recruited and onboarded new team members, hosting both software and manufacturing practice workshops to improve their skills as engineers • Distributed tasks amongst team members to meet competition and team-oriented deadlines

Landing Gear Design Lead
Berkeley, California, United States
• Designed and optimized shock absorption mechanism and integration to aircraft using SolidWorks • Validated design survivability and efficacy using MATLAB, Simulink, and FEA analysis • Prepared 2D engineering working drawings for use in manufacturing and machining of components, complete with GD&T tolerances • Manufactured and assembled landing gear components by using a combination of 3D printing, woodworking, laser cutting, and machining on the lathe and mill

Structures and Integration Team Member
Berkeley, California, United States
• Researched and designed various landing gear configurations for a remote-controlled aircraft • Conducted FEA analysis for a load-distributing flange intended to integrate the landing gear to the fuselage • Summarized research and analysis in a final design report to to be entered into the SAE Aero Design West competition

Private STEM Tutor
• Privately tutored 20+ high school students in physics, chemistry, and math at a variety of levels ranging from introductory to Advanced Placement • Assisted students in both individual and group settings, adapting to various learning styles and environmental circumstances • Created concise slideshows as further resources for several students who struggled with distance learning during the pandemic

Coding Instructor
