Svitzer (part of the Maersk Group) is a global dominant towage services provider to Oil and Gas majors, National Oil Companies and Ports and Harbours. Based in the Dubai Regional Office as a member of the Regional Leadership Team, I lead the HR & Crewing function. The HR and Crewing Managers, BP’s and Officers deliver HR excellence from Sakhalin (Russian Federation) to Soyo (Angola) to an employee population of ~48 nationalities that make up the 1250 personnel onshore and offshore in the 11 countries of the Svitzer AMEA Region. Accountable for all standard HR processes and products including Employee Engagement, Performance and Talent Management, Comp & Ben, Training and Career Development, Employment Cost RoFo, Expatriate management, Recruitment and a complex employment compliance framework. I independently lead my team in scoping employment cost, organisation structure and the HR compliance framework including interplay of employment, tax, immigration, maritime/flag state and local content law for business cases and tenders, often at short notice. Highlights to date have included engaging with 2 Ministries to obtain approval for a unique employment regime for 300+ employees, designing & managing the transfer process of employment of 60 employees from a tax free contract to tax and currency exposed with concomitant 20% salary reduction, stimulating Regional Employee Engagement from 74% to 83%, the successful Clustering of front line operations change management and significant standardisation of HR and Crewing process. I drafted a series of documents in late 2017 to assist a Middle East State's Ministry of Transport integrate a new Maritime national qualifications framework into the Ministry of Manpower / Labour "jobs framework”. In addition to existing business Regional accountability, in 2018 I am responsible for HR and SGA of start-up business implementation projects in 3 new geographies (Liberia, Bangladesh and Morocco) and divestment of a business.
