Oral health is the only part of healthcare that has never been part of healthcare. Not because the evidence supports that separation, but because the system was designed that way, and nobody has had sufficient reason to redesign it. Until now. I am a registered dentist, a Dental Officer with South Western Sydney Local Health District Community Oral Health, and the founder and Clinical Director of Continuum Teletherapy and Allied Health, Australia's first allied health telehealth platform to include oral health screening in every appointment as a standard part of care. When someone accesses psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology, or dietetics through Continuum, oral health is part of the conversation too. Not as an add-on. As a clinical philosophy. I hold degrees in Dentistry and Applied Science (Radiation Therapy). I am particularly interested in what happens when oral health is finally treated as part of the rest of healthcare, and what it takes to make that structurally possible. I write about oral health policy, the evidence that keeps getting ignored, and the structural reasons why the mouth keeps getting left out of whole-person care.
