About

I am a psychologist, Senior Fellow at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, and New York Times best-selling author with 7 books, including Making Great Relationships, Neurodharma, Resilient, Hardwiring Happiness, Just One Thing, Buddha’s Brain, and Mother Nurture – with over a million copies in English alone. I am the founder of the Global Compassion Coalition and the Wellspring Institute for Neuroscience and Contemplative Wisdom, as well as the co-host of the Being Well Podcast with my son Forrest. I've lectured at NASA, Google, Oxford, and Harvard, and specialize in positive neuroplasticity, with my work being featured on CBS, NPR, the BBC, and other major media. I began meditating in 1974 and have taught in meditation centers worldwide. My wife and I live in northern California and have two adult children. I love the wilderness - especially rock climbing - and taking a break from emails.

I am a psychologist and have written and taught about the essential inner skills of personal well-being, psychological growth, and contemplative practice – as well as about relationships, family life, and raising children. I’m the author of five books, including Buddha’s Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom. Grounded in science, it will show you how to use your mind to change your brain to benefit your whole being – for if you can change your brain, you can change your life. Buddha's Brain is available at Amazon: http://amzn.to/pvDwcZ My latest book, Resilient: How to Grow an Unshakable Core of Calm, Strength, and Happiness, is a step-by-step guide to reliable happiness grounded in the science of positive neuroplasticity. It explains how to overcome the brain’s negativity bias, release painful thoughts and feelings, and replace them with self-compassion, self-worth, joy, and inner peace. I also offer a free weekly e-newsletter, called “Just One Thing,” which suggests a simple practice in each short-and-to-the-point issue that will bring you more joy, more fulfilling relationships, and more peace of mind and heart. These practices are generally not in my book and they frequently focus on things that will improve relationships. You can read more about the Just One Thing Newsletter and signup at http://www.rickhanson.net/writings/just-one-thing.
