Sport and Event Management Research Lead, Griffith Institute for Tourism @ Griffith University

About

As an Associate Professor in the Department of Tourism & Marketing at Griffith Business School, Griffith University, I bring over 26 years of experience in sport management, higher education, and assessment innovation. My research centres on global sport systems, high-performance sport development, and fostering inclusivity through evidence-based programs and policies with a growing focus on AI-resilient and authentic assessment practices that are reshaping how we evaluate student learning in business and sport management education. I serve as Co-Leader of the Sport and Event Management Cluster at the Griffith Institute for Tourism Research (GIFT), and contribute to the broader academic community through editorial and peer review responsibilities in sport management and sport policy scholarship. My expertise spans sport governance, policy, elite athlete development, and programmatic assessment design, with a strong emphasis on creating sustainable and inclusive pathways in sport. I am a TEQSA Registered Expert and the recipient of an Australian Award for University Teaching and an AFR Teaching Excellence Award - recognitions that reflect my commitment to pedagogical innovation at the highest level. I am dedicated to advancing knowledge and practices that support athletes, organisations, and stakeholders in navigating the complex dynamics of global sport management, while simultaneously reimagining assessment for the age of generative AI.
