Pete Williams
Research Lead - Neuroprotection and Repair Unit @ Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA)
About
My lab uses the eye as a model of the central nervous system to elucidate early mechanisms of neurodegeneration. We utilize -omics and neurobiological tools to delicately dissect pathways pertaining to early aging and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms and to identify potential therapeutic targets which we then test and verify in animal and cell models of neurodegeneration. We work with clinicians to develop novel protective strategies that will benefit human health, aging, and disease. I do not frequently check LinkedIn mail.

PhD Student
In the laboratories of Profs. James Morgan and Marcela Votruba I researched retinal ganglion cell dendritic and synaptic plasticity in OPA1 mutant mice (a model of autosomal dominant optic atrophy) for a PhD in Visual Neuroscience and Molecular Biology in 2012.
