Experience

Medicinal Chemist
Dundee
• 4+ years of drug discovery experience in an academia–industry environment. • Discipline lead scientist for the Ciulli–Boehringer Ingelheim PROTAC collaboration (AC-BI), working with a multidisciplinary team of chemists, biologists, and structural biophysicists in Dundee and Vienna. • Lead a team of 6 medicinal chemists in Dundee; responsibilities include design and synthesis of in vivo potent PROTACs guided by cellular, biophysical, and DMPK data. Three programs have reached research milestones and one program is now at preclinical stage. • Expertise in structure-guided drug design using cryo-EM and crystallography. • Skilled in modern synthetic methodologies (e.g., amide coupling, transition metal, photoredox catalysis); routine use of automated flash (normal/reverse phase) chromatography and RP-HPLC. • Coordinate synthesis outsourcing and scale-up across multiple CROs. • Dundee representative on the ScotCHEM Medicinal and Biological Chemistry Advisory Board.

PhD Researcher
Heriot-Watt University
Thesis: Batch and continuous flow C-H functionalisation of azoles • Winner of the 2020 Institute of Chemical Sciences Second Year Research Prize. • Developed novel C-H functionalisation methods for alkyltetrazoles and 1,3,4-oxadiazoles using organometallic reagents. • Experienced in multi-gram synthesis, air- and moisture-sensitive techniques, batch and continuous flow reactions, Schlenk line and glovebox work. • Skilled in NMR, VT-NMR, IR, MS, csp-HPLC, and csp-GC.
Education

Chemistry
Final year project: Synthesis of functionalised pyrrolidines and piperidines from green starting material 2-MeTHF Supervisers: Prof. Peter O'Brien and Dr. Thomas Farmer Developed synthetic routes towards functionalised piperidines and pyrrolidines from green starting material 2-MeTHF. This enables an alternative, sustainable way to produce these important synthetic building blocks. Methodologies involved lithiation-trappings, amination via nucleophilic substitutions and metal mediated intramolecular aminocyclisations. Invited speaker at SCI undergraduate research symposium at Loughborough University to present MChem project.
