Helen Hobbs and Jonathan Cohen Laboratory, Department of Molecular Genetics. • Discovered a critical genetic and drug interaction that improves liver transplant short term survival rates by greater than 20% in affected individuals. This discovery will lead to the implementation of new genetic liver transplant protocols. • Primary researcher managing a major aim of a $2.5 million research grant focused on discovering novel insights and developing new molecular/genetic strategies and drug targets for the treatment of chronic liver disease. • Served as an analytical lipid mass spectrometry consultant for the Periodic Table of Foods Initiative (PTFI), an international consortium seeking to analyze the oil/fat composition of all consumable foods. Consolation successfully aided in securing a research collaboration and funding between the PTFI and UTSW. • Established HPLC/mass spectrometry analytical methods for the analysis of metabolites implicated in the protection from developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. • Developed in-vivo and cell-based assays and mass spectrometry methods to track drug metabolism and test gene and drug interactions. • Awarded T32 training grant in metabolism from 2019-2022, due to continued research productivity and results.

• Lead research scientist on a global project focused on sequencing and reporting the first genome of Jojoba, which lead to a top tier journal publication and ongoing international research collaboration for Jojoba research. • Created novel mass spectrometry and analytical techniques for the analysis of plant lipids/metabolites, leading to 18 publications and funding of a grant to study the production and metabolism of plant oils and specialized compounds. • Generated and leveraged large genetic and metabolomics datasets to uncover new mechanisms/pathways for lipid storage and synthesis in seeds. • Directly oversaw the scientific training of 10+ undergraduate students for independent research projects.

•Conducted research on the foraging abilities of the invasive ant species Tapinoma melanocephalum, the ghost ant, in subtropical climates. •Examined the ecological diversity of the ant population in Butler County, OH; discovered seven new county records. •Publication submitted regarding both research topics to the Proceedings of Entomological Society of Washington, November 2012. •Laboratory experience: proficiency in light microscopy, experimental design, and technical writing.
