About

College admissions is not fair. Nor, will it ever be.What nobody says is that college admissions is a business. Here's the reality:Your student can have a 4.0 unweighted GPA, a full AP schedule, and incredible leadership — and still get rejected from every school on their list. Most students that find me don't have a qualification problem, what they have is a marketing problem.I've worked on BOTH sides of that desk.I worked in admissions at Vassar College. I served as Director of College Counseling at Marymount High School in Los Angeles, an elite girls Catholic school. And for over 20+ years, I've coached more than 10,000 students — from public schools in Park City, UT, Asheville, NC, Chicago, IL, and San Ramon, CA to exclusive private schools in Los Angeles, CA, Houston, TX, New York City, NY — through one of the most high-stakes processes of their lives. My students have been admitted to Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Duke, Cornell, UCLA, USC, NYU, and top 50 and top 25 colleges nationwide. But here's what I want you to know:The goal is not to be better than other applicants. The goal is to be harder to be compared to other applicants.A true standout applicant becomes a close to a party of one as possible. Most students aren't even close to that elusive top 1%. That's what we specialize in.Here's the gap most families never close:✦ Strong academics get you IN the pile. ✦ A standout profile gets you SELECTED from the pile.90% of the college application happens before senior year.Best time to start planning and strategizing? 9th grade. Next best time, today! How I help:① Identity — We build who your student IS, not just what they've done. Becoming a Party of One. Harder to compare. Impossible to forget.② Essay — We find the story only your student can tell. Not impressive. Human. Connected.③ Strategy — The 30-40-30 college list. The 4 Questions framework. The plan that gives your family choices in April.“Dr. Colón was invaluable for my son and daughter over four years of prep. Her passion, energy, and deep knowledge are unmatched— she’s a joy to work with.”Lyla T., NYC ParentAdrian, Yale '29 Diana, Duke '30Ready to become a STAND OUT applicant?→ Join me LIVE FREE Webinar4 Questions Every Admission Officers Asks https://go.drcynthiacolon.com/4questionsregistrationThe Anatomy of 6 Successful Dream College Applicationhttps://go.drcynthiacolon.com/webinar-registration→ Book a Strategy Call: drcynthiacolon.comhttps://go.drcynthiacolon.com/booknow→ Get the FREE ebook: https://www.drcynthiacolon.com/eBook

As the oldest child of an immigrant mother, I would be the first in my family to attend college. My Tios and Tias had taught me how to make frijoles and salsa, but few had gone to college. Armed with determination and one business card, my mother made the appointment and drove us north on the 110 freeway in our brown Oldsmobile. Mr. Raul Vargas showed me what to do, handed me an application, and explained to Mom how to apply for financial aid. That meeting alone changed the trajectory of my life. Six months later, I was admitted to my dream college: USC. My mother and Mr. Vargas were of the same mind, “It’s not IF I go to college, It’s WHEN I go to college.” My mother stopped at nothing to give us (all three daughters) what we needed to chase our dreams and live our best life. If your school or school district is ready to systematically alter the trajectory of your students, well, you’ve come to the right place! MISSION OF DESTINATION YOUniversity To help every family, no matter their background, believe college is an opportunity to alter the trajectory of their lives. Delivered through live, hybrid and digital courses and workshops, we offer teens and parents the step by step expert guidance they need to successfully access a 4-year college/ university. HISTORY OF Dr. Cynthia Colon, Inc.:  We've been working to help families navigate the college admission process since 2003. We were founded as Co-Ed College Consultants and ran bootcamps in the summer for rising seniors. In 2017, after the launch of my book, Tips, Tales and Truths for Teens, the company was reestablished as Dr. Cynthia Colon, Inc, which is the parent company to Destination YOUniversity. Since 2017, we've worked with families of all educational and socio-economic backgrounds to help their teens successfully access competitive 4-year institutions.
