(Kahr Research Group - Chemistry and Crystallography). 2003-2004. - Researched nanoscale crystal-impurity interactions of mixed crystals using atomic force microscopy and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Summer-Fall 2002 - Designed, assembled, and experimented on model gamma-ray detectors consisting of scintillating materials and fibers, wavelength shifting optics, and photomultiplier tubes. Implemented a new design, based on these experiments, into the “Highly Portable Neutron Detector” to be used for homeland security detection of weapons-grade radioactive material.
