Our purpose at DoctorsTraining is to help all doctors, educators, and leaders build sustainable and rewarding careers in the NHS. We provide bespoke development programmes, coaching, and mentoring that have been specifically designed for doctors by doctors. My Story As an individual I have been involved in medical education for over 20 years. I discovered my ‘sweet spot’ or what we call purpose during some valuable reflection on holiday in Thailand. Thank you Rob Parsons, the heart of success (still a great read), for the stimulus and my first valuable life lesson - Decide what you enjoy, what you believe you can be good at and focus your energy to develop your expertise. Shortly after returning I started one of the first medical education fellowship roles as an SpR developing blended online learning solution to support access to formal education with the introduction of the EWTD. Since then I’ve dedicated my professional career to various medical education and leadership roles within the NHS alongside working as a consultant paediatrician with specialist expertise in paediatric nephrology. As a director of Education for 8 years and deputy medical director in a busy acute Trust I helped build a successful education team supporting both postgraduate and undergraduate medical, nursing and allied health professional training programmes. Regionally I supported the establishment of the first paediatric school and lead the development of our current regional education programme. I was the national lead for the development and implementation of the RCPCH first ePortfolio and supported the work on the revalidation and assessment committees. In 2017 I trained as an executive coach through the excellent scheme hosted by Yorkshire and Humber deanery. Looking for a new challenge I left my formal role and started working with DoctorsTraining, a collaboration founded in 2009 by Dr Liz Spencer to support the training of supervisors, consultants, SAS doctors and doctors in formal training pathways. As Liz retired I formally took over in 2019 and relaunched to expand our network of expert doctors and organisations that we support alongside my work as a paediatrician in the NHS.
