Excavations at Banawali (Haryana) and Dholavira (Gujrat) have added many new, hitherto unknown, dimensions of the personality of Harappan (Indus) civilization. Each provided a new town planning. Dholavira has turned out to be unique in respect of planning, architecture, water harvesting and engineering, provisions for community life, industrial activities, economic systems, mortuary practices and funerary monuments, besides yielding as yet the earliest signboard in the world.
