Dr Heidarzadeh is an experienced chartered Civil Engineer specializing in design and construction of civil engineering infrastructure, and their resilience to extreme natural hazards (earthquakes, tsunamis, storms, landslides & floods). He has gained extensive experience both in construction industry and academia. Dr Heidarzadeh has been involved in the design and construction of a number of world-class complex infrastructure such as the Karkheh dam and reservoir (world's sixth longest dam), Gotvand dam (the highest embankment dam in Middle East), the Karun IV double-curve concrete dam, underground metro tunnels and structures, among others. He has served as a technical advisor for the Ministry of Energy for the safety of dams and reservoirs. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) (Professional Engineer), a member of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE), a Chartered Water and Environmental Manager (C.WEM), and a member of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (MCIWEM).He has published many of these engineering experiences as international articles. He sits on the Editorial Board of a number of international journals. He is an internationally-recognized engineer/scientist and has been elected as the Secretary General of the "Joint Tsunami Commission" of IUGG (https://tsunamicommission.ipma.pt/officers/). Dr Heidarzaseh mentors and supports numerous young engineering graduates (BEng, MEng and PhD) to prepare them for industry, and help them securing professional chartership.
