Dr. Mateusz Piontek

After successfully managing Product Engineering, the opportunity opened up for me to manage the Production department. In my position, I am directly responsible for the on-time and qualitatively flawless production of our complete portfolio of products. I have been improving processes and the leadership culture in production since I started at the beginning of 2022. With my colleagues I improve the use of data for process optimization with special interest!

After 1.5 years at Micrometal, I was entrusted with the Product Engineering department. A close contact to the sales department remained as before. Among other things, I was responsible for the technical processing of quotation requests. Together with my co-workers, I accompanied interested parties from the first inquiry through sample parts to series production.

After my time at Saarland University and completing the work on my doctoral thesis, I decided to enter a new professional field. Feeling well equipped and with a well dosed portion of risk readiness I started at micrometal. Beeing responsible for accompaniment the transfer of products to serial production, consulting costumers on technical issues as well as project management, the new job gave me the opportunity to prove myself.

In fall of 2014 I started the work on my doctoral thesis at Saarland University, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. K. Hegetschweiler. I dealt with the development of synthetic pathways towards platinum complexes with selected facially coordinating ligands as well as the investigation of the coordination chemistry of a special ligand with selected metal cations. This included for instance the determination of stability constants, acid-base properties, characterisation by NMR, UV-Vis, single crystals, cyclic voltammetry and much more preparative work in the lab. However, beside my work in the lab I joined my supervisor as a teaching assistent. This included lecture-accompanying exercises in coordination chemistry as well as practical lab courses for chemistry students. I started as an assistent in the basic lab course for chemistry students. After 2 years I headed the advanced lab course in coordination chemistry. During this time I got the opportunity to develop and improve my teaching skills which were greatly honored by many students. Extraordinary oral presentation skills as well as teaching skills - making chemistry easy to understand for everyone - are one of the very positive outcomes of my journey as an academic researcher. I appreciated very much the opportunity to work in Prof. Dr. K. Hegetschweiler group. After completing my doctoral thesis there was time to move forward and search for new challenges.
