Dr. Mahmoud AL Humaidi

My PhD research focus on growth and characterization of semiconductor nano-wires (NWs). We use vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism for NWs fabrication in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). We also perform X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to characterize the crystal structure and the elastic properties of the NWs. These properties are essential for the different semiconductor NW-based applications in photonic and optolectronic devices. 1st paper: ''Impact of the Shadowing Effect on the Crystal Structure of Patterned Self-Catalyzed GaAs Nanowires", published, Nanoletters, 2019 2nd paper: ''In-situ X-ray analysis of misfit strain and curvature of bent polytypic GaAs-In(x)Ga(1-x)As core-shell nanowires", Accepted, Nanotechnology, 2021 My master research focused on studying the effect of doping concentration of Eu3+ ions on the lattice parameters of the host crystal structure of Sc2O3 nanoparticles. This study was done by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) and photoluminescence spectroscopy technics.
