* During the research period work was done on the Chaetopterus * pergamentaceus. This is a polychaete annelid (worm). The purpose * was to look at the calcium release and its effects on fertilization. * The proposal was written and was able to be modified as a portion * of it dealt with the sperm, which we feel had something to do with * the activation of the egg that causes fertilization to occur. The * sperm factor was added to the egg during fluorimetric spectroscopy * and calcium release occurred. Hence, a specific protein in the sperm * seems to be present in the sperm. This resulted in a published paper.

* Skills attained included collection and tabulation of patients' data * from various hospitals and clinics for the purpose of clinical * research projects. * Computer data entry and analysis. * Field work and patient testing. * Collaboration with researchers and organization of various * workshops and symposiums. * Administration of the Diabetes Mellitus Project.
