* During the research period work was done on the Chaetopterus * pergamentaceus. This is a polychaete annelid (worm). The purpose * was to look at the calcium release and its effects on fertilization. * The proposal was written and was able to be modified as a portion * of it dealt with the sperm, which we feel had something to do with * the activation of the egg that causes fertilization to occur. The * sperm factor was added to the egg during fluorimetric spectroscopy * and calcium release occurred. Hence, a specific protein in the sperm * seems to be present in the sperm. This resulted in a published paper.
