Dr. Bill Johnson

Dr. William Johnson is CEO and Chief Scientist of drbillj.com LLC, established in 2021. Formerly, the FAA Chief Scientific and Technical Advisor for Human Factors in Aircraft Maintenance Systems he has 55 years as an Aviator. He has a broad safety career with 45+ as a Senior Executive and Working Scientist/Engineer in private and public Engineering and Airline Companies specializing in human-centered safety solutions. He is an Aviation Maintenance Technician and a pilot for over 55 years. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1980. Since then, he has published extensively on human factors and technical training in many industries. He has delivered hundreds of high-value high-energy speeches in over 50 countries. Dr. Johnson is a member of the Flight Safety Foundation, the Royal Aeronautical Society, The International Society of Safety Professionals (Charter and Board Member), the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (30+yr.), the Human Factors and Ergonomic Society (30+yrs.), and The International Federation of Airworthiness (Board Member). He is the 2011 awardee of the Sir Francis Whittle Outstanding Service Award from the International Federation of Airworthiness for his continuing technical contributions to maintenance human factors. Bill received the FAA Administrator’s Plain Language Award for his leadership in writing The Operator’s Manual for Human Factors in Maintenance. He applies that same “plain language” and clear communication in current endeavors. He is the 2018 awardee of the FSF - Airbus Human Factors in Aviation Safety Award for lifetime contributions to human factors safety. In 2020 FAA awarded Dr, Johnson the Charles E.
