Dr. Barkis Ip

Barkis is a seasoned executive with over 30 years of senior management and consulting experience across Finance & Accounting, Sales Management, Risk & Compliance, and Mergers & Acquisitions. He began his career as Financial Controller/CFO of an insurance company—now CTF Life—in Hong Kong, before transitioning into sales leadership at AIA Australia, where he led agency teams delivering insurance and financial planning solutions to households and family businesses in the Sydney market. He has since held prominent regional leadership roles, including Vice President of Regional Compliance at AIA & Affiliates, Regional Director & Head of Operational Risk Management at AIG Asia, Senior Director in Risk Management at HSBC Private Bank, and Regional Chief Compliance Officer for Sun Life Financial Asia and MetLife Asia Pacific. In these roles, Barkis directed compliance and risk teams across 15 Asian markets, overseeing more than 200 associates. His consulting engagements have included partnerships with Kinetic Partners (now Duff & Phelps), CSC, and GLG, advising clients such as ICBCI, MFS, and Sunlife Everbright. He has also guided SMEs through M&A processes under the BCMS framework, spanning industries from HR services and OEM manufacturing to healthcare, IT, and environmental protection. Prior to stepping down from the corporate functional role, Barkis has served as Chief Risk Officer at Hong Kong Life for 9 years and is now transitioning to a role as an Advisor. Barkis holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Canada, a Master of Science in e-Commerce (with distinction) from Hong Kong, and an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Philosophy in Risk Management from Kennedy University France. He is a CPA, Chartered Company Secretary, Chartered Governance Professional and Certified Management Consultant, and a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
