Dr Amar Shanghavi

I believe in private sector led development and I am passionate about practicing the change I want to see. My time in public policy at the IMF and a PhD in economics give me a unique appreciation of the practical realities faced by small enterprises as they grow. My diverse entrepreneurial ventures have ranged from a FMCG trading business, to starting and managing the first commercial apple orchard in Tanzania. This allowed me to learn a wide range of important topics from challenges faced by farmers, soil fertility and infrastructure costs to matters of logistics and distribution. Presently I am working on sustainable forestry processing at Tanganyika Plywood LTD, centered around employee ownership and mindful manufacturing.
