Douglas Hurley

Uniquely accomplished and decorated executive, astronaut, pilot, and engineer with 30 years of specialized experience operating, managing, and leading the most innovative aerospace and aviation technologies in service to NASA’s international space program and the U.S. Marine Corps. I have logged over 5,500 hours in more than 25 aircraft and two space vehicles. A veteran of three spaceflights, most recently I served as Spacecraft Commander on the first crewed test flight of the SpaceX Dragon (2020), becoming one of the first two astronauts in history to launch aboard a commercial orbital spacecraft. This marked the first time in history that a private company (SpaceX) entirely developed a space system to send NASA astronauts to space. For five years leading up to its successful launch, I served as a liaison, consultant and test pilot on behalf of NASA to the company’s operations and development teams. Throughout my career, I have been a trusted and accomplished consultant, leader, communicator, and mentor for astronauts, officers, civil servants, corporate contractors, and enlistees as well as peers overseeing missions, training, flight test, and safety programs. As an internationally recognized and sought-after NASA spokesperson and speaker, I regularly participate in public relations campaigns and events to promote NASA and the STEM sciences, spanning media interviews, educational events for students of all ages, seminars, promotional videos, social media, and more.
