Based within the Network Operations Function, the purpose of the Transmission Network Controller (NCT) is to manage, monitor, control and allow access to the transmission South West Interconnected Network (SWIN) on a continuous shift basis to ensure the power system is operated in a safe, secure, reliable and efficient manner in accordance with Western Power’s policies and procedures. Make immediate independent decisions to maintain network integrity, thus minimising risk of system wide and compliance issues. Functions include: voltage control, VAr flow, run planned and unplanned outages, TSM studies and monitor Contingency Analysis of the transmission network to ensure N-1 compliance. Also seconded to also assist with the Transmission Distribution Integration (TDI) project. The Area of Authority was shifted from Transmission to Distribution to take ownership of substation transformers up to the HV isolators.
