I write PLC code and build HMI screens. I maintain, troubleshoot, configure all the things connected to the PLC. I keep lines running. I am people-focused in my designs. I naturally picture operators using my machines, maintenance people servicing them, and PLC programmers reading my code. I work to make things easy to understand, clean, and readable. I seek to communicate with and understand the client. My experience spans material handling, process control, and SCADA rather than sitting in just one lane, I have been mentored along the way by some of the best in the field. I've worked with conveyor systems and prox sensors, and process control with PID loops, FITs, and FCVs, and SCADA with custom graphics. I have experience with panel building and commissioning, including parts specifying, redlining, BOM, and check-out. I've laid and terminated cable and configured VFDs. I've built with 8020, installing brackets and prefer star over Allen keys. I'm not afraid of tools or crawling around in weird places wearing PPE. I've always been fascinated with mechanical things. Rockwell controllers are the backbone of my skill set, Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RXLogix 500. I know ladder logic, function blocks, and scripting, and SFC. I have used FactoryTalk View SE and ME, Ethernet/IP and Modbus. I obtained Ignition Core certification (8.1, lapsed) and SolidWorks certification. I've worked with AutoCAD Electrical for drawings. I have NFPA 70E training and am currently MSHA surface mine certified. I have used the AVEVA PI ecosystem, and Delta V DCS, and Siemens TIA Portal. I have programmed AutomationDirect PLCs and been trained in Schieder PLCs. I come from a family of professors, and I'm good at explaining a complicated system in plain language: to the operator running it at 3 a.m. and to the client signing the check. My BS in anthropology taught me about communication and thinking from different points of view. During commissioning I'm usually the one talking to the customer in between working with the rest of the team to work the problem. I believe that communicating difficult concepts in an understandable way is a sign of intelligence. What I'm looking for next is a multi-disciplinary team where I can go deep instead of wide. I've been lucky enough to work on a lot of different things; now I'd like to get properly expert at some of them, alongside people who know more than I do. I do my best work on hard problems that need a creative answer.
