Metal packaging engineer with in-depth knowledge and hands-on expertise in DWI process to efficiently manufacture two-piece aluminum cans, beverage easy open ends and aluminum bottles. Supporting new and existing canmakers to create and manufacture better aluminum containers thru innovation and best in class manufacturing practices adapted to the metal packaging industry. We can cover from defining metal specifications, container design, control plans, tooling progression to in-depth canmaking training, equipment specifications and testing protocols to proficiently operate a canmaking line, among other concepts related with two-piece aluminum cans, can ends and beverage bottles.

Global R&D leader of BPA phase-out program for RTD beverages and Liquid dairy products in contact with metal packaging, Packaging leader of Science and Technology Pipeline for liquid products in contact with metal packaging, Global packaging leader for new products and concept developments in metal packaging for RTD beverages (Nitro Can Coffee, Self-heating Can, Aroma Release Can). Global role supporting different business units (Coffee, Waters, Cocoa, Dairy and Tea), markets (LATAM, NA, AOA, and EMEA) and R&D centers within the company utilizing 3pc steel cans, 2pc aluminum cans and bottles. Customer Service & Technical Representative: Represented two rolling mills in Latin America and the US (Alcoa Warrick and Alcoa Tennessee Operations). Single point of accountability for all bodystock and endstock shipped to Latin America and four key customers in the US. Supported and trained other CSTRs to troubleshoot complex issues on the field with their customers (USA, Australia, China, Poland, Russia, Canada). Led product optimization initiatives at customer locations and solved complex application issues from metal to tooling design (fractured domes, scoring, bleedthrough, spoilage, low efficiencies). Senior Staff Engineer for bodystock and bottlestock: Responsible for delivering solutions to customer process problems and Alcoa's Global RCS system, contributed with $7.12MM in value to the business through cost avoidance and TSS/TSO work in 2009. Instructor of Canmaking 101 training programs, seminar that educated people with different backgrounds and regions of the world like Crown Holdings, FAMOSA, Metal Container Corp., Grupo Modelo, EUM and Alcoa rolling mills like Samara, Bohai, Tennessee, Warrick and Yennora. Provided engineering leadership and project management to new to the world container designs and supported production of those containers from lab scale to mass production. Customer Service & Product Technical Manager for Mexico: Responsible for customer service and technical support of eight plants dedicated to the fabrication of aluminum cans and ends, supported product optimization initiatives like a new 3104 alloy with different surface topography and composition, qualification of new post lubes and coatings at customer locations, supported internal customer initiatives for process improvement, developed a training program on aluminum sheet production process and canmaking technology for a new can plant in Central America, implemented a standard process to document, follow up, verify, and close CARs effectively (Drive Zero Customer Incidents).

Managed two high speed/volume production lines for the fabrication of two-piece aluminum cans, Led special operational failure analyzes and their documentation, Production coordinator for special runs and new label designs, Conducted key performance indicator analyzes and their daily follow-up in order to achieve a steady improvement system, Implementation leader of a new internal and external coating, Leader of the project “Reduction and Control of Metal Spoilage” developed under the Six Sigma Methodology DMAIC.

Assigned to process improvement activities, engineering support to manufacturing, quality assurance for pre-treatment/nickel baths and finished nickel-plated aluminum disks. Conducted failure mode analysis and disposition of non-conforming product. Commissioned a brand new electroless nickel-plating line to mass production aluminum discs for hard disk drives. Core team member of the technology transfer process between Conner Peripherals and Seagate Technology. Implementation leader of a new carousel design in order to reduce plating surface defects. Leader of post-nickel optimization process in order to eliminate flatness issues. Implementation leader of an Auto-Monitoring Life System for nickel baths in order to prevent and reduce plating surface defects. Quality assurance role in the manufacturing of the first 10,000-RPM hard disk drive (Cheetah Family) for the industry.

I was able to visit most of the FEMSA packaging companies (16 in total) and observed their operations, from glass production (SIVESA) to beer canning/bottling (CCM), a nine month course hosted in different cities (Monterrey, Toluca, Cordoba, Queretaro) to learn different operations. Project: Front End Efficiency Improvement of a 2 Piece Aluminum Can Line, Performance analysis of incoming metal/bodystock, lubrication systems (cup lube and coolant), tooling geometry and progressions, line balance for continues flow, RCA of downtime, tear offs, human resource empowerment and spoilage.
