During the internship I had the opportunity to join the engineering team and work along with them. My main responsibilities were: pre-measuring and cost estimation of civil works, interior architectural design of apartments and surveying of existing buildings. I had the chance to work on some big hotel projects (ex. Lytos Beach hotel, Hersonissos Creta) and on some villas upgrade and renovation to hotel/AirBnB.

My diploma thesis deals with water distribution and supply systems and the possibility of energy generating with small hydro-power plants using PAT (Pumps as Turbines) technology at specific locations of the system. The conventional approaches of pressure control, used today, are presented together with the possibility to use the excess energy using PATs and the evolution of PAT technology was presented through a literature review. The Epanet software and the theoretical background developed to predict the behavior of a PAT, was used on some networks simulations replacing the pressure reducing valves with PATs in order to estimate the energy production as well as their overall performance in the network.
