Devondrian Womack

Cellular and molecular biology graduate pursuing research technician and biotechnology laboratory roles. My experience includes RNA/DNA isolation, RT-PCR, western blotting, gel electrophoresis, microscopy, bioinformatics analysis, etc. I work comfortably in structured lab environments following established protocols and maintaining accurate experimental documentation. My capstone research assisted a NIH-funded experiment at WCU examining the effects of combined co-exposure of alcohol and nicotine on neonatal rodents by evaluating the protein expression of the control group to obtain the base level foundation to compare the experimental results with. During a SURI research internship I processed rodent brain tissue samples, performed protein analysis, and contributed a microbiome section to a collaborative scientific review paper in preparation for journal submission. I also conducted comparative genomic analysis of Streptomyces proteins using BLAST, Jalview, Galaxy, and RStudio through an international research program. I presented research at ABRCMS national conferences (2023, 2024), collaborating with researchers across institutions and disciplines. I’m particularly drawn to work involving gene expression, drug discovery, and experimental applied research. I’m interested in long-term development within biotechnology research, especially concerning projects focusing on longevity. I prioritize clear communication of methods and results so experiments can be replicated and continued by other team members.
