For my dissertation, I developed a wireless charging system using the Qi standard rated at 5W, widely used for low-power devices like smartphones. The project focused on inductive power transfer, where energy is transmitted wirelessly between coils using electromagnetic induction. Key achievements: - Designed a resonant tank circuit to operate in the frequency range of the Qi standard. - Built the system using an H-bridge driver IC, signal filters, and a microcontroller. - Implemented Qi-compliant amplitude-modulated communication between transmitter and receiver. - Created the schematic and PCB layout in Altium - Simulations for the resonant tank and full-bridge - Measurements using oscilloscope The result was a functional wireless charger with a clean design and broad compatibility. I also analyzed limitations like heat, efficiency (~70%), and alignment sensitivity. This project strengthened my skills in electronics design, embedded systems, and PCB layout.
