- Associate Professor in Cancer Biology (2019, Botucatu School of Medicine at Sao Paulo State University, Brazil) - Post-doctoral in Tumor Virology (2008, Weill Medical College, Cornell University - USA) - Ph.D. degree in Pathology (2002, Botucatu Medical School at Sao Paulo State University - Brazil) - Major in Biomedical Sciences (1997, Institute of Bioscience of Botucatu, UNESP - Brazil) - Further education: short-term trainings in world-class Institutions, such as Children's & Women’s Hospital (Vancouver, BC, Canada); Texas Children’s Hospital (Houston, TX, USA); Hillman Cancer Center (Pittsburgh, PA, USA), and the Whitehead Institute / MIT (Cambridge, MA, USA). - Main areas of expertise: human pathology (focus on oncology) and cellular & molecular methods - Major topics of interest: cancer biology, viral carcinogenesis, HIV infection, education in biomedical sciences/careers, information technologies, and entrepreneurship. - Most relevant positions now: Professor of Pathology and principal investigator for the Viral Carcinogenesis and Cancer Biology Research Group (ViriCan), both at UNESP. My major goal as an educator is to support the formation of knowledgeable and technically skilled professionals in biomedical careers with robust values in regarding the ethical, social, humanitarian, and environmental dimensions. As a scientist, I am lead an academic research laboratory in a public University in Brazil, and I am in charge of managing studies, staff, projects, budgets, as well as local and international collaborations. We are committed to produce and disseminate knowledge on the role of selected human viruses in the development of human cancers, aiming to contribute for a better understanding of the biology of malignant tumors. Our group made relevant scientific contributions and many of our alumni are achieving recognition and positions in prestigious Institutions either in Brazil or overseas. Lately, our research group became especially interested in the possible role of oncoviruses in the progression of human cancer.
