Vice President, Discovery and Translational Biology @ Attovia Therapeutics

About

I am currently working as the Vice President of Translational Biology at Attovia Therapeutics. In my current position, I am working to bring forward new therapeutics for diseases in Immunology and Inflammation. I have spent the last 21 years performing basic and translational research in the fields of cancer biology and immunology. I obtained my PhD investigating the mechanisms of colorectal and breast cancer cell invasion upon EMT. Subsequently, I spent six years developing primary mouse models of hepatocellular carcinoma, studying disease onset, progression, imaging, and metastasis. During this time, I also dedicating my efforts towards elucidating the progression and treatment of lymphoma, as well as kidney, lung, and bone cancers. Since moving to industry, my initial focus was on the development and utilization of preclinical animal models to support the discovery and development of novel therapeutics in cancer and immuno-oncology. More recently, I have begun overseeing groups responsible for identifying and validating new targets in various areas of oncology and immunology, while continuing to manage in vivo pharmacology and preclinical development to support our multiple pre-IND therapeutics and translational biology to provide insight into the activity of these therapeutics in patients.

My postdoctoral work was focused primarily on characterizing the mechanisms governing liver cancer metastasis using novel primary transgenic mouse models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In addition, I investigated the contribution of multiple independent genes to HCC onset and assisting in the coordination of a collaboration with a local biopharmaceutical company to design anti-cancer therapies. I also worked to investigate the mechanisms underlying onset and therapy of lymphoma as well as kidney, lung, and bone cancers using a variety of mouse models and novel imaging modalities.

During my postdoctoral research, I developed two novel primary mouse models of liver cancer metastasis, which I am continuing to investigate. In addition, my postdoctoral work included the identification of multiple genes and chemicals that can facilitate liver cancer onset, characterization of the anti-tumorigenic properties of Atorvastatin in HCC, and coordinating a collaboration with a local biopharmaceutical company to develop novel anti-cancer therapies.

My graduate work was primarily focused on investigating the role of the epithelial adhesion protein p120ctn in the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of colorectal carcinoma. Additional work during my Ph.D. included studying the contributions of the RhoC small GTPase and integrin beta-6 to the progression of colorectal carcinoma using the EMT as a model.
