Head of Data Science and Bioinformatics @ Cellanome

About

I've spent 20+ years asking one question: what does the genome tell us that we can't see any other way? That question has taken me from essential gene discovery in S. aureus to iPSC-derived CAR-T and NK cell therapy, from Illumina sequencing facility operations to ML-driven automated analysis platforms — and along the way, I've built the bioinformatics infrastructure behind multiple IND filings, been named inventor on 7 patents, and co-authored 25 publications in journals including Blood and Science Translational Medicine.Today, as Head of Data Science and Bioinformatics at Cellanome, I lead an 11-person team building next-generation multiomic characterization tools for cell therapy:→ PhenoSight — an end-to-end automated platform integrating scRNA-seq, CITE-seq, deep immunophenotyping, memory phenotyping, functional state scoring, KEGG pathway analysis, and metabolic fitness into client-ready CAR-T characterization reports→ BugFinder — an NGS-based microbial contamination detection pipeline supporting GMP sterility assessment and regulatory compliance→ ML-driven automated gating, phenotype classification, and signal-to-noise discrimination — replacing manual review with reproducible, scalable computational decisionsBefore Cellanome, I spent 12 years at Fate Therapeutics, where I grew the Genomics department from 0 to 13 scientists, built the AWS cloud bioinformatics infrastructure, led CRISPR functional genomics screens, and contributed to the genomics packages for multiple IND submissions — including for ProHema and ProTmune. What I bring to the table is unusual: I can architect a cloud pipeline, interpret a clonotype distribution, present to a C-suite, and write a methods section. That range — from bench to boardroom — is what the next generation of cell therapy platforms needs.Open to connecting with leaders in cell therapy, precision medicine, and computational biology.
