Experience

CTO
Greater San Diego Area
Creating intelligent driving monitoring system based on deep learning and AI to improve commercial driver safety and reduce litigation events. System leverages intelligent edge computing device with multiple cameras and sensors in the windshield to dynamically evaluate the driving environment and observe positive and coachable events, provide near-realtime feedback through cloud dashboard to fleet safety manager. Helped recruit and build team, algorithms, product, company, and bring product to the market.

Principal Engineer/Manager
Greater San Diego Area
Contributed to and led projects and teams in Qualcomm Research, including the Qualcomm Zeroth deep learning team. Took ideas from concept to silicon prototypes, helped with customer interactions and business development. Also worked in areas of OFDMA cellular radio technology, ultra low power short range wireless communication, and neuromophic, machine and deep learning.

PhD Student
Stanford, CA
PhD in Information Theory working with Prof. Tom Cover Jointly developed rate and power adaptation methods for multi-hop wireless networks based on convex optimization and Perron-Frobenius theory to extremize power, rate, or delay subject to quality of service constraints on outage probability, queueing delay, link and path rates. Formulated ad-hoc and packet-loss network models as erasure networks to observe the effect of network dynamics on Shannon capacity regions. Determined relationship between erasure network capacity regions and the underlying network capacity regions. Presented research at technical conferences.

Teaching Assistant
Stanford, CA
Information Theory I, Winter Quarter 2002-03 Information Theory II, Spring Quarter 2000-01 Digital Video Processing, Winter Quarter 1998-99 Introduction to Computer Networks, Autumn Quarter 1998-99 Assisted professors with classes by grading exams, creating homework and exam solutions, managing homework graders, holding office hours and review sessions, and creating and maintaining class web pages.

Co-founder and CTO
Mountain View Analytics
Mountain View, CA
Developed algorithms and tools around the Universal Portfolio concept. Participated in customer meetings and technical sales.

Consultant
Clearwater Networks
Mountain View, CA
Analyzed the packet processing capabilities of the SiByte-1250 network processor. Explored potential network processor applications in edge routers. Estimated performance for simultaneous-multithreading based network processors based on current literature.

Member of Technical Staff
Pasadena, CA
Member of Technical Staff, Sec 3312, May 1996 - September 1997, June-September 1998 Researched application of digital modulation techniques for short wave radio. Programmed flexible high-frequency digital system in C with m-ary quadrature amplitude and m-ary phase shift keying modulation, decision feedback equalization, Reed-Solomon and Convolutional channel coding, and block interleaving to combat the severe multipath and Doppler shift. Performed field tests by utilizing computers with digital-to-analog/analog-to-digital cards to transmit signals from California to Washington DC. Analyzed data to characterize the high-frequency channel and system performance. Technical Co-op, Sec 3312, May-December 1994, May-August 1995 Performed analysis of satellite coverage for LEO constellations. Converted Galileo S-band Analysis Program to Voyager X-band Analysis Program. Performed data analysis for the Direct Broadcast Satellite Radio project. Programmed Windows data plotting and analysis application and converted satellite mapping program to Windows.
