+ Full-stack engineer (and 8th employee) at a small startup offering a data analytics platform for safety-net primary care clinics, built on Rails and React. + Led an overhaul of our data pipeline importing electronic health records data, parallelizing jobs and boosting performance up to 80%. + Co-led the design and implementation of a Twilio integration for customers to execute patient outreach campaigns. + During the COVID crisis, leveraged my domain expertise in healthcare to spearhead the development of an in-app risk model to identify high-risk patients, rolled out to all customers in late-March 2020. + From ideation to production, led the development of a cross-customer data analytics “Library” service, allowing customers and Relevant staff to publish and import quality measures, clinical reports, and other SQL-based resources. + Introduced a lightweight, in-app version control system to manage and version SQL scripts. + Led the design and implementation of an “alerts” module whereby customers receive email notifications alerting them to data discrepancies or red flags. + Developed an internal tool to execute read-only SQL queries and collate results across all 60+ customer databases.

+ Authored several investigations on the causes and consequences of high U.S. healthcare spending, which became among the most popular reports in the Commonwealth Fund’s history. + Authored 15+ articles in journals such as the Harvard Business Review, New England Journal of Medicine, and Journal of the American Medical Association. + Served as a go-to resource for journalists from the New York Times, Washington Post, Politico, and other high-profile outlets on the causes underlying high U.S. healthcare spending and U.S. health system performance relative to other industrialized nations. + Independently or in partnership with the Fund’s president, explored provocative health policy questions and research in 15+ pieces on the Fund’s blog. + Co-wrote invited testimony presented to the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on the impact of the Affordable Care Act. + Led the design and analysis of the Fund’s flagship, multi-million dollar 11-country health policy survey of doctors and patients. + Oversaw research projects undertaken by the Harkness Fellows -- mid-career health policy experts from other countries awarded a year-long fellowship to study the U.S. health system. + Invited to participate on a National Academy of Medicine roundtable exploring decreasing life expectancy among U.S. working-age adults.

+ Conducted evaluations of large public healthcare programs, mainly for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. + Modeled future demand and capacity of the South Dakota nursing home system, and submitted recommendations to the state government. + Analyzed data for a multi-state study on nursing home resident choice, contributing to two peer-reviewed journal articles.
