Design, development, and validation of a psychological assessment instrument to evaluate bariatric surgery candidates. This includes interviewing bariatric surgery candidates, development and implementation of research protocols, and incorporating outcomes into a formal psychological test. This is the only psychological test designed specifically for bariatric surgery candidates. Psychological Review for Obesity Surgery Journal. Responsibilities include review of publication submissions for psychological, methodological, and statistical accuracy.

Pre-surgical psychological assessments with an emphasis on retaining patients that are at risk for dropping out of the surgical process. I also identify and address post-surgical psychosocial problems and assist patients through the surgical and weight loss process.

I conduct pre-surgical psychological assessments and surgical education groups with an emphasis on retaining patients that are at risk for dropping out of the surgical process. Responsibilities include performing psychological evaluations to determine the extent and nature of psychological, behavioral, cognitive and substance abuse impairments in individuals with a variety of medical problems. This includes individuals with a wide range of disorders such as; obesity, depression, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, suicidality, cognitive impairments, and substance/alcohol abuse. The evaluations are performed on individuals of all ages and backgrounds including combat veterans of the U.S. armed forces.

As a member of the Advisory Board, my responsibilities include reviewing manuscripts submitted to the journal, assisting in the solicitation of articles for submission, writing articles for publication in the journal, and participating in board meetings

Member of a clinically diverse team that developed and implemented research to identify the psychosocial mechanisms responsible for surgical attrition. The results provided us with the groundwork for the development of clinical protocols to minimize surgical drop outs and increase surgical volume.
