I lead the hardwood reseach focus in northern Australia, in a position jointly funded by the Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) and the University of the Sunshine Coast. My tree improvement, species characterisation, taxa site matching and climate adaptation research has resulted in changes in the hardwood tree varieties grown and the regions being developed for hardwood plantations in Queensland. I have led a large suite of research projects for DAFF and USC on Eucalyptus, Corymbia, Khaya, Grevillea, Sandalwood and Acacia tree improvement attracting over AUD$15 million in research funding since 2000. I have extensive collaborative links with the plantation industry, other research providers and the university sector both in Australia and overseas.
