• Acted as one of two staff attorneys at the Zurich Staff counsel office in Seattle. Represented diverse clients as lead counsel on an average of 30-40 pending litigation files providing defenses to numerous Zurich policyholders. This role included litigation in Superior and District Courts in all counties throughout the State of Washington, as well as Federal District Court for Eastern and Western Washington. • Defense of a wide variety of sizable liability claims including: bodily injury, construction defects, product liability, breach of warranty, CPA cases, MVAs involving commercial vehicles, as well as employment claims • In addition to managing a full load of defense litigation files, additional responsibilities included working with non-local management, extensive training in file management, corporate security and protocols, and emerging issues impacting the defense of civil cases. This position required advancing the “value proposition” associated with the use of staff counsel as opposed to panel counsel. This included high levels of client communication and reporting

• Defended individuals and businesses in bodily injury, property damage, and construction defect litigation cases. Managed multiple files of various sizes and levels of complexity while acting as in-house field counsel for Liberty Mutual in Seattle, Washington. • Cases included catastrophic bodily injury, land subsidence/lateral support, and defective construction claims ranging from less than $100,000 to more than $1,000,000. Resolved numerous cases through ADR, direct negotiations, dispositive motions, and trial.

• Represented owners, contractors, and subcontractors in construction defect, personal injury, and real estate disputes. • Retained by insurers to defend their insureds against claims for breach of contract, contribution indemnity, and to pursue coverage from additional insurers where necessary. • Tried cases to a jury and argued before the Washington State Court of Appeals in matters involving both claims for bodily injury, construction defect, and breach of contract. • Defended contractors and homeowners in cases involving timber trespass, subsidence, and catastrophic structural failure. • Acted as an arbitrator in construction, commercial, and bodily injury claims in both King and Snohomish Counties.

• Practice focused on the defense of construction defect and construction related bodily injury disputes. • Represented both contractors and individuals in large and small property damage and bodily injury cases involving premises liability and automobile accidents. • Defended developers/declarants and contractors in numerous condominium defect cases, often litigating complex issues of insurance coverage and contractual risk shifting and allocation. • Defended contractors and homeowners in cases involving landslides, subsidence, and catastrophic structural failure. • Served two years on the Gordon Thomas Board of Directors and was the head of the firm’s Defense Litigation Group. • Tried a number of cases to a jury and argued before the Washington State Court of Appeals regarding a variety of issues in both construction defect and bodily injury cases.

• Acted as sole litigation attorney for a small Seattle law firm for several years while developing a civil litigation practice defending contractors, agricultural co-ops, business owners, and individuals. • Litigation included insurance defense as well as a direct representation of individuals and businesses in general civil litigation. • Cases included trade name disputes, surety claims, environmental litigation, insurance litigation, premises liability and auto accidents.
