Ensure good working conditions and safety standards are maintained.  Ensure that the plant complies with the environmental regulations on shift.  Responsibility for ensuring all employees and contractors in the Burning and Grinding department adhere to the policies, procedures and instructions set for the organization.  Assess risks, carryout Risk Assessments for production activities and that personnel from other departments or contractors have risk assessments for the work to be carried out in the area  Responsible for ensuring good housekeeping.  To manage the multi-disciplined production shift team, to ensure efficient production to the correct quality targets.  Provide a detailed written shift report as specified by the department managers.  Ensure effective handover to the following shift.  Set up efficient communications within the shift team CCR, laboratory and maintenance.  Manage arising issues on shift, coordinating effective responses and mobilizing the necessary resources.  Supervise and ensure all shift personnel operate to the SOPs, carryout plant patrols and planned maintenance as set out by the respective departments.  Active participation in cross functional route cause analysis meeting for the area.  Assist in the planning and supervision of shut down work.  Carryout appraisals of staff and agree continuous development programs.  Monitor and control attendance, sickness and absence and vacations.  Take the necessary action on any breaches in line with HR policies.
