Headed Medical Mutual’s regulatory relations program and managed projects involving the implementation of new regulatory requirements. Developed relationships with state and federal regulators, co-chaired a company working group responsible for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and handled legal and regulatory issues related to acquisitions. Managed the company’s response to market conduct and financial examinations. Led a group responsible for implementing Ohio’s High Risk Pool under the Affordable Care Act. Served as the company’s Deputy Compliance Officer. Provided quarterly updates Medical Mutual’s Board of Directors Audit Committee on corporate and regulatory compliance issues. Managed staff responsible for developing and implementing the company’s compliance and ethics program, including the code of conduct, employee training, resolution of conflict of interest issues, hotline reporting, and internal investigations.

Developed Department policy positions on state and federal legislation, including the federal patient’s bill of rights, optional federal chartering for insurers, and federal association health plan legislation. Coordinated development and adoption of administrative rules, including rules on long-term care insurance, downstream risk, and Medicare supplement insurance.
